FFL firearm transfers in Morgantown, WV

What it is

Federal law does not let a firearm ship directly to you from an out-of-state seller. It has to go to a dealer holding a Federal Firearms License, who receives it, logs it, runs the background check and completes the transfer in person. We hold that license, so we can be the receiving end of an online or out-of-state purchase.

It is a straightforward process, and mostly it just needs somebody local who does it regularly.

Who it’s for

Online buyers. You found a better price, or a model nobody stocks locally, from an online retailer or auction site. They will ask for your dealer's FFL before they ship.

Out-of-state private purchases. Bought from an individual in another state, or inherited a firearm that has to cross a state line to reach you.

Anyone who has been sent away from somewhere else. Not every shop takes transfers, and some that do treat it as an inconvenience. We do not.

What to expect

Call us first, before you complete the purchase. This is the single most useful thing you can do — it lets us confirm we can accept that particular item, tell you our current transfer fee, and send our license to the seller so the shipment is not delayed at their end.

Then, in order:

1. The seller ships the firearm to us and we log it in on arrival.
2. We call you once it is physically here. Please wait for that call rather than the tracking number — packages occasionally arrive later than the tracking suggests.
3. You come in with valid government-issued photo ID showing your current address, complete the federal form, and we run the background check.
4. Once it clears, the firearm is yours and goes home with you.

All transfers are subject to federal and West Virginia law, and we complete them exactly as the law requires — including declining any transfer that does not clear. That is not negotiable, and it is the reason the process is worth doing with somebody who does it properly.
