What the range is like

The shooting floor runs a full 50 yards from the line to the back wall, with target butts on rolling carts so distances can be set wherever you need them. Most practice happens between 20 and 40 yards, but the room is there if you want to stretch out and find out what your setup really does at distance.

It is a working range rather than a showroom: block targets and Morrell bags, sponsor banners on the back wall, and enough width that a league night does not feel like queuing. Because it is fully indoors and climate-controlled, wind is not a variable and neither is light. That is exactly what you want when you are chasing a tuning problem or trying to work out whether a change actually helped.

The TechnoHUNT video archery system

TechnoHUNT is a video archery simulator, and it is the closest thing to hunting you can do in a building in February. Life-sized hunting scenarios play on a screen; you draw, pick your spot and shoot at the animal on the video, and the system tells you exactly where the arrow went.

The important part is that you shoot your own equipment. Your bow, your arrows, your sight, your release — the only change is that you take off your field tips and replace them with the special blunt tips we supply. Nothing about your setup is simulated, which means the feedback is real. A shooter who is confident on paper at 30 yards and falls apart on a quartering-away whitetail on TechnoHUNT has learned something genuinely useful before opening day, not after it.

It is also the basis for two of our leagues — Team Techno in the new year and Techno March Madness through March.

Walk in, or become a member

You do not need a membership to shoot here. Walk in during store hours, pay for your time on the range, and shoot. That is how most people start, and for someone who shoots a few times a season it is the sensible option.

If you are shooting weekly — and especially if you are shooting a league — an annual membership works out considerably cheaper. It runs $150 for an individual or $225 for a family, which is the tier most of our regulars end up on once one child gets serious about it.

Range rules

Short list, and none of it is unusual. It exists so that everybody on the line goes home with the same number of holes they arrived with.

• Broadheads are not permitted on the range — field points and target points only.
• On the TechnoHUNT system, field tips come off and our blunt tips go on. We supply them.
• Wait for the all-clear before going downrange to pull arrows, and never cross the shooting line while anyone is at full draw.
• Check your arrows before you shoot them. A cracked carbon shaft is the one genuinely dangerous thing on an indoor range.
• Children are welcome and encouraged, with an adult present and within arm’s reach on the line.
• If you are unsure about any of it, ask. Nobody here minds the question.
